What We Talk About When We Don’t Talk at All

the feeling of pulling the lever on an armchair back but forever

wanting a cigarette but you’re already smoking

Facebook but made of tattered blue tarps

guns are legal but only for women

an astrological sign but only for Willem Dafoe

the problem of evil but good

an old clown mask but just the smell

Tinder but corpses

golf but with guns

everything but just the sound

Alf but he’s an UGG

our love but deeper

fingers but worms

Twitter but gestures

the sky but way lower

frequent flyer miles but for suffering

Tinder but to find yourself

the internet but a book

World War III but love

trees but just the leaves before they hit the ground

The Shining but just the snow

the Olympics but baking

capitalism but everything is priced according to size

Wi-Fi but grief

yesterday but today/today but tomorrow

god but us/us but god

looking for a tick but finding a USB port

a basketball game but just the squeaking of sneakers

a biblical plague of locusts but text message notifications

a ghost but just the mustache

stand-up comedy but for sadness

every molecule in your body but further apart

not night but day in reverse

Shazam but for ceilings you don’t recognize

roll over minutes but for pain
