The Ultimate Guide to CBD Products for New Year

The Ultimate Guide to CBD Products for New Year

Let’s face it, 2020 has been one of the most stressful years we’ve ever experienced. From the coronavirus and nationwide shutdowns to the presidential election and political tension, many people with no previous mental health issues are suffering from anxiety. It’s safe to say, everyone deserves to kick off the new year feeling a sense of calm, CBD is here to help

CBD — short for cannabidiol — is a chemical compound found in the hemp plant, alongside more than 100 others. THC, the active compound most people seek in cannabis, is a close relative to CBD, but the latter doesn’t cause intoxication. You’ll remain clear-headed and focused, which allows you to drive, work, and parent without feeling high.

Research suggests that CBD consumption promotes relaxation and better sleep, in addition to easing chronic pain, inflammation, and muscle soreness for many users. There are a plethora of different benefits, however, and most people use CBD for these reasons.

Before you spend your hard-earned cash, there are some important notes to bear in mind. Not all CBD is created equally, including flower. When you purchase gummies or vapes from gas stations and corner stores, you don’t really know what you’re getting. The dosage on the product label could be misleading, or you might be consuming heavy metals or pesticide-ridden trash.

When it comes to flower, the buds lose potency and that nice stickiness after being packaged and repackaged multiple times before reaching their final destination, AKA your local gas station.

This is where certificates of analysis (CoAs) come into play. CBD isn’t regulated by the FDA, making CoAs crucial. These give you the ability to see the cannabinoid profile: which terpenes are present, whether or not the product contains trace amounts of THC, and if there are heavy metals, pesticides, microbials, and other nasty stuff inside of the product you’re considering purchasing.

In a nutshell, you can confirm that the label on the package matches what is inside of the product.

Reputable CBD companies provide access to recent CoAs on their websites. In stores, look for a QR code on the packaging, because that leads to a CoA for that specific batch. When companies use third-party labs to perform these tests, especially on a batch-by-batch basis, you can feel at ease knowing you’re consuming, inhaling, or applying the best of the best.

We want you to know that you can trust the brands below. We have ensured that each one has conducted recent third-party lab tests, and we’ve reviewed the certificates of analysis. You can’t enter the new year feeling calm if you’re using hyped up, snake oil-like products.

Broad-spectrum CBD contains all of the cannabinoids with the exception of THC. Full-spectrum leaves the cannabinoids intact after extraction, providing users with “the entourage effect,” all of the cannabinoids working together in unison to deliver the highest level of relief and relaxation.

Have you been seeking relaxation and a good night’s sleep? In some cases, stress can cause insomnia and sleep disturbances. Potli, a minority- and woman-owned company, recently launched a new product, Dream Honey. We enjoyed one teaspoon in a cup of tea, but it’s tasty on its own, too.

Raw wildflower honey is blended with 120mg of CBN—an increasingly popular cannabinoid known for its sedative properties—and 6mg of melatonin to help you fall asleep, as well as 60mg of full-spectrum CBD to help you stay asleep. Bring the jar on-the-go, so you can unwind within a moment’s notice. $32

LEEF: Steep CBN Bath Tea

When you indulge in a long soak in the bathtub, you can experience relaxation. However, adding Steep CBN Bath Tea will help you feel calmer and sleep better. CBN is another cannabinoid known for its sedative properties—it stimulates more REM sleep. With 10mg of CBN and 20mg of CBD, LEEF created a bath product that will help you fall asleep faster and sleep deeper. $16

One of our favorites is the Acid Mantle Repair Moisturizer, which contains 250mg of full-spectrum CBD per jar. With hero ingredients like sunflower seed oil, hyaluronic acid, and sustainably sourced squalane, this moisturizer can help repair the acid mantle (a protective barrier that wards off bacteria and contaminants,) which is often damaged from over-exfoliating and using skincare products made from harsh chemicals. Vaginal suppositories for PMS symptoms are raved about due to the quick onset, long lasting relief, and complete effectiveness. Mother’s Dose created a holistic medley of full-spectrum hemp extract—50mg per suppository—and natural ingredients. They are our new best friend when Aunt Flo is getting ready to visit.

The vaginal walls have many receptors allowing the active cannabinoids to enter the bloodstream, so you should experience full-body and mind relief. For an added bonus, The Relief & Recovery Suppositories can help you recover from soreness after sexual intercourse. 10 per pack. $79

CBG—commonly nicknamed “the mother of all cannabinoids”—is known for its ability to reduce inflammation and anxiety, as well as promote good digestion and gut health. With 14% CBG, this flower triggers more of a euphoric and sedative effect than traditional CBD, making it a must-have for lingering 2020 stressors. $40

Herbivore: Emerald Deep Moisture Glow Oil

The research is still in the preliminary stages, but we believe CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties can help relieve redness, inflammatory skin conditions, irritation, and dryness. Herbivore formulated Emerald Deep Moisture Glow Oil with 100mg of Colorado-grown full-spectrum hemp extract, along with essential adaptogens.

Adaptogens are natural plants, herbs, and roots that may relieve anxiety. When we are stressed, our cortisol levels spike resulting in skin inflammation and premature aging. The combination of CBD and adaptogens can assist in alleviating these afflictions.

You can address your facial dryness, redness, and troubled skin with this vegan, all-natural oil. We have been using Emerald for several days and already see notable improvements. Being the secret to supple skin, this is a must-buy for skincare and hemp lovers alike. $58

Her Highness: Last Prisoner Project Single Pre-Roll + Lighter

Courtesy of Her Highness

Want to get high on social justice? Her Highness joined together with the Last Prisoner Project to donate 50% of the proceeds of these pre-rolled hemp joints (and a refillable lighter.) Did you know that 40,000 people in the US are in prison for cannabis offenses in legal states? One man is facing life without parole for purchasing $20 worth of marijuana from an undercover cop.

The Last Prisoner Project is a team of cannabis industry leaders, criminal and social justice advocates, policy and education experts, and leaders in drug policy reform. They’re committed to freeing every last prisoner who has been a victim of an unjust incarceration. The Last Prisoner Project Single Pre-Roll + Lighter features three women on the back of the packaging, all of whom spent at least seven years in federal prison for nonviolent cannabis offenses. Your money will help these women and many like them, plus, the flower is top-notch. $15
