leech

In this water I am a jewel fastened

to the infinite darkness of bottom dwelling

Both my mouths eat of wonder &

gore I pray to the god of the pull out

that my sins stay unnamed

& my b o d y stays bloodletting & tender

as a worm Sometimes I am as ready as

I am willing Other times the story smells

of soured wood & I forget that I am

not always alone & there is company I take

a cigarette from the freezer

Pour lost blood from one cup into another

temperant & drunk off my own wine

I smile with all my cherried teeth
